My First Fair

Only a little post today just to report on what an absolutely wonderful time I had doing my first fair in Market Harborough on Saturday.  The other sellers were so nice and the atmosphere was great.  The time went so quickly and I have to admit my bottom lip did come out when I saw it was time to pack up and it was all over!  This is my stall

My mum helped me on my stall and we did quite well so a very successful day all round.  I took my husbands farm truck with all my bits in and I have to admit I did have van envy when I saw other sellers easily packing their bits into their vans and I had to step on my little stool to give me a leg up into the back of the truck!  Not a pleasant sight for passers by! It was great to meet like minded people and others that are interested in the same things as you.  The hardest part is not spending all your profit on buying from other stalls!  Here is a picture of a very excited me behind my stall at the start of the fair.  I did calm down a bit!

I'm at the Northampton Fair in 3 weeks so I can get excited all over again.

I want a van now!

Yes everyone Del Boy Vicky wants a van now!  My friends have named me this of late because I'm always wheeling and a dealing!  I don't want a van like Del Boys though!  I would like one like this

but unfortunately my sensible husband wants me to get something more reliable as I'll be gallavanting everywhere and do not want to break down.  I don't mind though because I need a van.  It all came into my head after we were trying to fit all our goodies including furniture that we had bought at auction into the back of the car.  We were on holiday at the time and so had to fit dog beds, cases and us in to get home as well!  At auction I won this baby changing unit which unfolds at the top for doing my packaging ...

and this lovely shabby chic bureau.  I'm going to tart it up and sell it on!

Just got so many lovely things at the auction in Snettisham...here are a few more bits that I'm going to put on my shop

Alfred Meakin Fenland 7 cups & 9 saucers
one of a selection of vintage tins
I had been thinking of getting an estate car to fit everything in but the rate I'm going with my buying and selling and wheeling and a dealing I'm gonna need a van!  I will put the name of my shop - The Nostalgic Kitchen on the side in lovely vintage writing though even if it is a modern van!
The shop is going really well and I'm starting to get my name about through different means.  I had my first ever advert in 'Vintage Life' magazine this month which was very very exciting.  It is my first fair this Saturday at Market Harborough and I'm all ready with my bits priced up and everything packed up ready to go!  Only trouble is I don't have a van to take it in!!!  3 days to go...see you there if you are coming.

What to do with my ironing board ??!!

What a find!  I bought this vintage ironing board at a car boot sale to sell in my lovely little shop and now i've got it home I just don't know what to do with it!  My vision was to recover it and clean it up and sell it on looking all pretty and nice, however would it be worth more unaltered in it's original state?  I can picture it now with pretty floral vintage fabric sitting in someones laundry room ready to be used but I just don't get the same warm fuzzy glow from the picture of it as it is.  So I ask you my readers which do you think?  Leave as is or recover and restore?  My worry as with everything I buy for my shop is that I will want to keep it if I recover it and as my husband keeps reminding me that won't make me any money - but everything vintage is just so lovely!!
28 days till my first fair!!!
Until next time, Nostalgic Vicky xx

I've been to Norfolk & I feel inspired!!

Hello friends,
I have just come back from a much needed weekend in Norfolk.  We stayed in a cute little cottage in Snettisham which was a delight.  Homemade cakes awaiting us when we arrived and fresh flowers in the lounge.  After a long walk on the beach I had a long soak in the roll top bath with a glass of wine and a Christmas magazine!!  Not long now everyone - time for me to start spreading the joy!!
Anyway at the end of the road was a small vintage centre with little sections for individual sellers to display and sell their goods.  I treated myself to a couple of bits but of course wanted everything.
I resisted buying yet more Babycham glasses as my obsession  is getting out of hand!  It got me thinking though that I could research such centres near me and have a little section. Feeling all vintage and inspired I returned home to Leicestershire to my very first order on my online shop.  I've had purchases from friends and family but to have a complete stranger look at my site and buy something was the end to a perfect weekend.  As my lovely friend Louise said to me from small acorns do great oak trees grow.  I've got everything crossed and the dogs have got their paws crossed - well they would if they weren't so tired after hours of running on the beach!
Norfolk never ceases to bring joy into my life!

So much stock so little time!!!

I have now got a pile up to the ceiling of wonderful treasures I have got to sell in my online shop and at vintage fairs!!  The buying and selling of the lovely bits and pieces is the fun bit - the photographing and spending hours putting it on the computer is not so much fun when you are such a busy bee like me!  Would like to do some tonight after work but the Great British Bake Off is on TV and I can't miss that!  Maybe I could stay up into the wee hours???!!!  Another day in the week would be good.  Am going to start my count down to my first vintage fair as a seller - 53 days to go!!! Am very excited. Love Nostalgic Vicky

Have just commited to doing a Vintage Fair on Sat 19th November and a Craft Fair on Sun 20th November. Am I mad? No just very keen to get my little business off the ground and to play shops two days running. I won't be on my own anyway as my mum will come with me and we chat and drink tea and read magazines so what could be better?? Although my poor husband will have to referee the 3 dogs on his own. He can cope I'm sure.

My first Musings!!!

Hello all, Nostalgic Vicky here broadcasting to the world for the first time in my new blog!!  How exciting.  My main reason for wanting to do a blog is so that I can link it with my online shop http://www.thenostalgickitchen.co.uk/ and build my business up so that I can be at home more with my doggies and not go out all day to work and leave them!!!  I have been following lots of lovely blogs for a while and really enjoy reading what like minded people are up to so hopefully someone will feel the same way about my blog!!  My blog will be all about my progress with my shop, nostalgic things in general, epsecially kitchenware, my lovely life in Leicestershire and my wonderful holidays in North Norfolk.  Start of something exciting for me and I hope people join me on the journey.
